Volkswagen Typ 1 (also known as Beetle)

The Volkswagen Typ 1 (also known as Beetle), is a compact car produced by Volkswagen since 1938.

This car became famous in different parts of the world with the nickname "Beetle". It was called "Käfer" in Germany, "Beetle" in the UK, Escarabajo "in Spain and" Maggiolino "in Italy. The Beetle is one of the best known German cars in the world. It's a symbol of the German industrial revival after World War II. It was also the first ever Volkswagen model.

Adolf Hitler in a speech in 1934 announced that he wanted to market a car for the people, a car for everyone. This was the beginning of the history of this car.
This car was designed by Ferdinand Porsche.
The initial project had to respect the following characteristics:

  • This car had to travel comfortably on the first motorways.
  • It had to have a capacity to carry 5 people or three soldiers and a machine gun.
  • The car had to go at a speed of over 100 km / h consuming an average of 7 liters per 100 km.
  • This car was to have an affordable price for the German people.

In the early 1950s, Volkswagen began selling the Beetle beyond the borders of Germany and opened branches in Brazil, the United States of America, Mexico and South Africa.
