Russell is an introvert . He doesn't have friends in the university. With regards to his grade, he's doing well. But he never joined any extra-curricular activities despite the encouragement by the teachers. He's an introvert, and reading books is what he does most of the time. During his school breaks, he stays in the library reading anything.
When he was younger, he used to be sociable. But losing his dad affected him badly. Then came bullying. Since what happened in school, he came to a point of not going to school. His mom enrolled him for home classes, and eventually encouraged him to attend the school.
While in the library, a female schoolmate, Betty, has been approaching him, and tried to befriend him. Since they're both spending their free time mostly in the library, they became friends. Her mom noticed Russell smiling when he gets home. While eating, he had confided to her mom, who's seemingly happy on his improvement with his social life.
Time came when he's not seeing her anymore in the library. He looked out for her name on the logbook, but he never saw her name there even the times when they were there. His mood changed, and didn't want to go back to school. It was found out that Russell has delusions, and his mental illness when he was young relapsed as seen on the "pattern" of his behavior. Betty is just an imaginary friend who became his confidant, and became his source of joy even for a short period.
