What is Tales of the Neon Sea?

*Tales of the Neon Sea* sends you as a worn-out detective into a detailed cyberpunk world that was designed in stylish pixel graphics. You look at what is happening from a side perspective.

Levels are colorful and very detailed. Really nice to look at

Dark humor runs through the narrative, which is about growing tensions between humans and robots. Because the machines have become conscious and no longer simply accept everything. The protagonist is an aging private detective who stoically moves from case to case and struggles with an alcohol problem.

In the dystopian cyberpunk world lit by neon advertising, a murder causes a stir. It is your job to solve the crime. To do this, you talk to characters, examine the detailed locations and draw conclusions.

The game design is reminiscent of classic point & click adventures, with the difference that you control your character not with mouse clicks, but with the WASD buttons or a controller. This is how you move through the world, start dialogues or interact with the environment. The gameplay is, apart from the control scheme, the same as in classic adventures like Monkey Island.

Different puzzle mechanics are also part of Tales of the Neon Sea. You also make potions and manage your inventory. The game especially wants to score with its atmosphere, as the trailer clearly shows:

Currently For Free. Yay Or Nay?

The game is currently available for free in the Epic Games Store. You can download it directly in the Epic Games launcher until 08.04.

Is it worht playing it? I say yes!

Tales of the Neon Sea is certainly a very special game: If you are fascinated by cyberpunk and you like puzzles and a mysterious story is more important to you than action, you could be happy with the new Epic gift.

Calm and patience required: The conversations in Tales of the Neon Sea are not voice acted, so you shouldn't be averse to reading. In addition, the puzzles should put your brains to the test. Patience and a certain amount of deep relaxation will help you cope with pacing such slow games.

The game is therefore suitable for switching off and relaxing over the unusually quiet Easter holidays. With a playing time of around 14 hours, Tales of the Neon Sea should offer enough content for this.

Tales of the Neon Sea was released on April 30, 2019 on Steam. Developer Palm Pioneer continued to update the game after its release and added the finale to the story afterwards.

The majority of players is satisfied with the adventure: On Steam, Tales of the Neon Sea achieved 83 percent positive reviews from over 1,100 reviewers.

Above all, players praise the atmospheric game world, but more often criticize the puzzles as being too strenuous (which might be a plus for some players).

If robots had their own god, what would it look like? And if they had the same rights as humans… would they betray us?
When there are no boundaries between flesh and machine… what is life?
This eccentric cyberpunk world holds all the answers…
