Sims 4 - Better Game Play With Mods!

Well... someone asked me to write this post about using Mods in the Sims 4... wonder who that could be? Mmmm hmmm! 😂

Anyhow... first things first you need to enable using custom content and mods and also enable script mods in the game options section of the settings.

It won't take effect till you restart the game. Before you restart.. look in your documents folder for this folder: Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods

Inside this folder is where you store your mod files that you download. I find it useful to make subfolders for certain things that you most likely be downloading like clothing, eyes, and etc.

Hint: In the Mods folder, the game only digs one level deep, so do not make folders within folder and on and on, the game won't recognize these.

And before you get started, it might be a good idea to install the Sims 4 Mods Manager to your computer. It is really helpful to see what mods and cc you have, so you can delete unused cc and mods, and see what your doing. Super easy!

You can see how I got some mods folders setup. You can do it your way, however you see fit.. just remember no more than one subfolder down.

For clothes and etc., there is one killer site The Sims Resource, that has a boatload of items, you could spend days looking and downloading.. a nice rabbit hole to explore if you are up at 3 am. 😂

You can use custom eyes on your Sims, if you want a different look. It gets boring sometimes looking at the same things as there are only so many combinations at your disposal. Makes for boredom, pdq if do say so myself.

There are clothes for all Sims there, you can filter what you are looking for to save time. It's a great site to get your Sims looking sharp!

You can download life manager mod to manage all the Sims in your current game, even the ones that you aren't playing.

Is a Sim plucking your nerves, and being an annoying little shit? Two clicks and they're in line! 😂 No more bad attitudes to deal with lol.

There is also a Relationship And Pregnancy Overhaul Mod that is useful to have in your game.

Is the Sim Wife withholding the "Love" from your Husband character? Then never fear... SimDa Dating is for you! Get your Sim the hookup of a lifetime! You might get lucky!😁

You can also download the Simzlink Mod that enables you to have a real life experience in getting cable, internet and music in your build for your Sims. Your Sims will not be able to use the internet and devices that requires the net. You must first have a Sim call Simzlink and schedule a setup appointment to get your services activated. Then you have to install a dish, and routers in your build for it to work.

If you do not pay your Simzlink Bill on time, your shit gets cutoff.. just like real life! 😛

Next up we got food stalls from major chains like McDonalds, Popeyes, Starbucks, Panda Express, and the Olive Garden to name just a few.

This Sim is going to enjoy a McDonald's McFlurry!

Tasty! She kinda liked that from what I can tell.

Yes, we had desert before the main meal fyi.

We went over to the Popeyes Chicken Stall for a sandwich.

Nothing better than the classic sandwich to fill up your Sims!

Next we got a mod that you can download to get all kinds of goodies to your build!

Everything from Ice Cream to Starbucks coffee drinks! You can also order any food on the menu that comes with the stalls, in case you don't feel like dragging your Sims out.. just order a delivery for home.

Olive Garden, Starbucks, Panda Express..

Even got Taco Bell up in the house!

You can also make a trip to the grocery store to get some goods to make at home, like cheesesteak subs and etc. You can use the notepad to get your recipes and cook.

This is a generic store that I filled up with some of the items, just to make it look like a store.

Click on the Custom Register, to open up the order screens.

Cereals, Drinks... I keep my Sims happy! But.. eat a lot of junk, you are gonna be doing time on that treadmill! Just like in real life, you will get fat if you eat to much of the junk. 😄

Want some Lays Chips.. this one has it covered! I can even get my Sims some beer. There is also a Drugs Mod out there, where your sims can get blasted and get all woozy and whatnot! LOL. Lookup Basemental in the search. ;)

There are A TON of Mods that you can download, and take them for a spin to see if you like them. They are all free, and in most cases better than what you can pay for. Some Mods are held behind a paywall for a few days.. but must be provided for free to gamers. It make take a few days, so have patience and keep a weather eye out for new mods.

There is also a program called GShade, that you can use on your computer to shade your game differently, it is pretty cool, but graphics intensive. Do not use unless you got a good gfx card and decent cpu.

Download GShade

Setup GShade Semi useful info, but you have to dig a little bit for a more detailed guide.

If you are handy with computers, and have the hardware give it a spin, there are quite a few presets out there for it.

I find it best to have a save or two that does not use mods and cc, due to EA constantly updating the game... and it takes a day or two for Modders to catch up to the new patch. You can play a no-mod save in the meantime, while doing the wait.

Is it worth it?

Yes I think so, if you use some cool tools.. like Better Exceptions from TwistedMexi that will help you keep track of Mods that have a conflict with the new patch. Click Here for some really good tools from TwistedMexi.

There you have it.. this should be a great start to get you going, to get some new gameplay out of the Sims4.

I find that using mods keeps it interesting, and if I think about it.. I think we are in the same boat. We're just someone else's Sims, keeping time in a lost save, stored on a HD lost to the passage of time. A forgotten creation left to our own devices... Or not! 😜

Good Luck!

And in case you were wondering.. it was all @snook's fault.. she asked for this! 🤣

Have A Lovely Day
