What To Eat Before Bed If You Want A Good Night's Sleep

Do you have trouble falling asleep at night? It might be caused by some of your late-night eating. Here are the foods you should eat before bed.

Soy products

Soybeans are high source of L-Tryptophan. L-Tryptophan is an amino acid that helps produce the neurotransmitter serotonin which in turn helps create the hormone melatonin in the brain – which regulates sleep. While only a small percentage of L-Tryptophan is used toward the synthesis of serotonin – it’s still critical for sleep.

Bananas

Bananas are full of things that help people sleep. They’re a good source of vitamin B6 which is used for melatonin production. Plus, they’re a good source of magnesium and calcium which helps your body regenerate muscles while sleeping.

Cherries

Cherries contain melatonin, which is a hormone your body produces when it needs sleep. Melatonin helps regulate your sleep and wake cycles. Researchers who’ve studied the melatonin content of cherries recommend eating them an hour before bedtime.

Jasmine rice

Studies show that foods high in easily-digestible carbs can reduce the time it takes us to fall asleep. These foods are known as "high-Glycemic”. Jasmine rice scores a 109 in the glycemic index-more than pure glucose. Many studies have shown consuming food directly before sleeping can make it harder to fall asleep. So try to make sure you stop eating about two hours before bed.
