Mangosteen fruit - Visiting local family in Lovina, Bali - #foodphotography @photocontests

Back in April while visiting local family in Lovina, learning about mangosteen from @gwidarma.

This was my favourite fruit from Bali. The fruit is juicy, sweet and tangy with deep reddish-purple rind and garlic looking cloves. Mangosteen has major part is traditional medicine and it helps with digestive problems, reduces inflammation, just to name a few. It's amazing how Balinese people use fruits, herbs and vegetables to prevent & treat symptoms instead of turning to medications. On another occasion I've tried mangosteen tea - it was deliocious, served warm and of deep purple reddish vibrant colour.

In the frame @gwidarma's daughter showing us the petals and how to open the fruit by placing it in a palm and squeezing gently the rind so you'll see the cloves exposed.

Interesting little fact: the number of petals on the bottom of the mangosteen will indicate how many cloves it contains inside.

Thanks for stopping by!

Love,
Justyna xx
