The power of vegan food

healing is hard. especially types of healing that we’re not necessarily experienced with. and i’m learning throughout the course of these unprecedented times that my body uses sleep (which, in turn, perpetuates an unbalanced schedule and bizarre meal times) as a trauma response. ⁣
two days ago, healing involved being in bed until 2pm, getting up and eating, napping until 9pm, and then studying until 1am. today looked a little different. couldn’t sleep last night, but got up at 7:45am, went for a walk with dad, made breakfast, and then a took huge nap from 11:30-2pm. not ideal, of course, but a step in the right direction. ⁣

i’m always trying to find something to look forward to so i can keep myself energized and engaged during the stay-at-home order, and i couldn’t stop thinking about a cucumber smoothie bowl yesterday, so that’s what i set out to do this morning. i’m so grateful to have fresh foods in the house, and it was so nurturing to make something for myself that would hydrate me and balance my hormones. not to mention, it helped me start the day off on the right foot, even though my days are far from ideal right now. ⁣

here’s the #dEATS: 1 frozen banana, a handful of frozen avocado, half a cucumber, a scoop of pea protein powder, 1 medjool date, and a generous amount of unsweetened vanilla almond milk. topped with pumpkin seeds (menstrual phase support! seed!! cycling!!), flax seeds, chia seeds, unsweetened coconut flakes, goji berries, and frozen strawberries/blackberries/blueberries. creamy, gentle, and delish 😌🥒🥑🍌

served alongside an unsweetened almond milk matcha latte for the bold and green aesthetic, of course. ⁣look how cute they are together.

thank you for your support and patience as i get back up on my feet again. i’m inching forward and getting back to my normal self, one slightly earlier morning at a time. ⁣

eat all the greens and get some sunshine today. don’t beat yourself up if you need that nap. love u. ⁣
