Potting Up Time! Grovid 21 Post

Growing from seed is a pretty cool thing! I get to plant, germinate, water and nurture, and watch it grow. Then, with luck, IO am feeding my family, during summer, with fresh picked, natural vegetables and fruits! BUT, there's always steps to take, to make sure the seeds come to fruition!

Taking a tour, of my grow lights setup, top shelf is Peppers, Cucumber, Zucchini, Marigolds, Squash, and Roma Tomato, that have been planted, but not yet germinated. top shelf has a Heat Mat underneath to keep the soil about 20 degrees F warmer, in my basement. (about 4-5 degrees warmer C)

Middle Shelf left in cups are a few kinds of tomato, upotted today. Some cherry, Sweetie, some chives, 2 kinds of onions, and some random tomato not up-potted yet, as well as a dozen or so Pepper plants too small for bigger pots yet.

Today is Potting Up Day

I am growing peppers I planted on Feb 15th, tomato I planted on March 15th. These guys grow fast enough that, before they go outside, they need to get transplanted from the tiny peat pots they start in, to bigger and bigger pots.

Today, I transplanted the Tomato into larger pots, also known as Red Solo Cups. I reuse the ones leftover from last year, as they are no good for drinking from... I poke holes in the bottom for drainage. I also reuse pots from last year, or year's prior, too.

Above, recently planted seeds for Zucchini, 3 kinds of Peas, and some stubborn Chocolate Pepper I cannot get to germinate! Below, on the same day I planted the zucchini, I planted some yellow summer squash, and some Cucumber that both seem to germinate FAST!

I will have an update on the 6 or 7 varieties of Peppers coming out soon! (Spoiler alert: Doing AWESOME)

What's left, you ask? Going in tonight, after dinner: 3 kinds of Lettuces, 2 Spinaches, planting in about a week:another type of Cucumber, a Spaghetti Squash I will direct sow outside, and 3 kinds of carrot also going in outside. We're moving, so I am balancing what I can grow in grow bags (for easy transport), with what I am planting this year. Fruit, such as Blueberries, Strawberries, and Beach Plum may have to wait... depending on when we get to the new place.

Grovid 2021!!!

For those not following the past year or so, Grovid originally came from @dreemsteem.
She challenged us all, during the year's Pandemic news,
to talk less about Codiv19 and More about Grovid20!
To talk sustainability and gardening and growing for the future!

#SaveLiveEventsNow

2020... a wild and woolly year, if ever there was one. My entire industry (Special Events) was shut down on 13 March and hasn't been back yet. Personally, I am ok, but so many of my colleagues and friends are struggling with bills, paying for food and rent, medical and health insurance. I am hearing from clients, probably no work until about 4th quarter 2021.

Always, I strive to give back

To the animals and birds around me

to put more plants in than I take out

And be a good steward for the world around me!
