The Killing of a Sacred Deer is an atmospheric house of cards, which builds up bit by bit. Strange dialogues and character constellations that leave a big question mark on the viewer. The complex construct builds up slowly and reveals its dark story. The atmosphere is always dense and uncomfortable and increases unstoppably until the end. There is also a great camera work and a gruelling soundtrack. The acting performance is outstanding. Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman as a married couple with many demons and above all Barry Keoghan as the mysterious Martin.
Uncomfortable, strange, vicious, gruelling. But also a bit too long and a little too cryptic. The Killing of a Sacred Deer is a heavy-hearted movie the viewer has to get oneself into.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer ist ein atmosphärisches Kartenhaus, welches sich Stück für Stück aufbaut. Seltsame Dialoge und Charakterkonstellationen, die erstmal ein großes Fragezeichen beim Zuschauer hinterlassen. Nur langsam baut sich das komplexe Konstrukt auf und offenbart seine finstere Geschichte. Die Atmosphäre ist stets dicht und unbehaglich und steigert sich bis zum Schluss unaufhaltsam. Dazu kommt eine großartige Kameraführung und ein zermürbender Soundtrack. Der schauspielerischen Leistung ist dabei ebenso viel zu verdanken. Colin Farrell und Nicole Kidman als Ehepaar mit vielen Dämonen und vor allem Barry Keoghan als der mysteriöse Martin.
Unbehaglich, seltsam, boshaft, zermürbend. Aber auch einen Ticken zu lang und etwas zu kryptisch. The Killing of a Sacred Deer ist schwere Kost, auf die man sich einlassen muss und abseits jeden Mainstreams.
