Capsule Film Review: Inception (2010)

With Inception Christopher Nolan became the most successful, if not the greatest filmmaker of contemporary Hollywood. The “artsy” and relatively “small” science fiction film made during the pause in lucrative Batman trilogy became surprising commercial success, while winning hearts of many critics. Complex story set in near future and dealing with criminals who steal confidential information by entering people’s dreams is told with superb direction, impressive special effects, memorable musical score by Hans Zimmer and excellent acting by Leonardo di Caprio who leads diverse but incredibly talented cast. Nolan’s perfectionism and seriousness in dealing with Matrix-like concepts, on the other hand, at times hurt the film, depriving it of necessary humour and humanity, but even with that, Inception looks light years ahead of anything else that usually comes from Hollywood.
