Capsule Film Review: The Client (1994)

The title character of The Client, 1994 thriller based on one of many John Grisham’s best-selling novels, is Mark Sway (played by Brad Renfro), 11-year impoverished boy from Louisiana. One day he accidentally gets in possession of an important information that could implicate leading Mafia figuers, so politically ambitious US attorney Roy Foltrigg (played by Tommy Lee Jones) will do everything in his power to get it. Mark, however, knows that talking would make him a target for Mafia assassins, so he tries to keep his mouth shut with the help of attorney Reggie Love (played by Susan Sarandon). Directed by Joel Schumacher, The Client suffers from the plot that most of the audience would have some trouble relating, but it is rescued by excellent cast, mostly Sarandon and Jones playing the characters that could be described as the more memorable in their respective long careers.
