Capsule Film Review: Man of Steel (2013)

The were three attempts to make major screen adaption of Superman in modern times, with the first, directed in 1978 by Richard Donner, so far the only one successful enough to result in film series of its own. Third attempt, directed by Zack Snyder in 2013, was not just the attempt to recreate the most iconic comic book superhero, but also the start of an ambitious DC Comics project to match Marvel Cinematic Universe. Man of Steel was far from successfully completely both task, and it is usually attributed to poor direction by Zack Snyder, who insisted on utterly serious and dark Batman-like tone, while the script by David S. Goyer erased any trace of humor or mere lightheartedness from the original. Huge budget is quite visible in series of spectacular CGI scenes, while the cast, led by Henry Cavill in main role, does the solid job. The best thing about Man of Steel is impressive music by Hans Zimmer, but it isn't enough to raise this film above the level of forgettable Hollywood summer blockbuster.
