Capsule Film Review: Four Rooms (1995)

1995 anthology film Four Rooms is made of four darkly humourous stories, partially inspired by Roald Dahl’s fiction and set in the hotel where the stories’ joint protagonist, played by Tim Roth, works as a bellhop. All four stories are directed by four different directors, including Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino at the early stages of their respective careers. Stories widely differ in mood and style, with Tarantino’s being the best and most memorable, but the general impression is great disappointment, mostly thanks to Roth who tragically overacts his role.
