Friends or Enemies?

The First photo is of a Red-Knobbed Coot swimming peacefully in the dam.

Something unbelievable here today. I will show you two sworn enemies in a friendship.

Now Moorhens (Callinula chloropus) are secretive birds that normally hide in the reeds and Red-Knobbed Coots (Fulica cristada) are always out in the open on the water protecting their territories.
The coots always attack the moorhens. Or do they?

A lovely shot of the Moorhen cruising around on the dam.

And then the Coot entered the peaceful picture and I was getting ready for a fight.

Coots normally run on the water to chase other birds away, but what was this?

Surprise, surprise, they were swimming together as friends. I was astounded.

A Moorhen and a Coot together???
Nobody will believe me, but here is the evidence.

So here you have it as there was peace on the water.

Like I said, this is a very unlikely friendship, and I was so honored to see it. Just goes to show, that we can do the same in life. Bad enemies today could be best of friends tomorrow, if they make an effort to understand each other. Unfortunately, it is when we protect what we regard as our own against others that is normally the catalyst for most of our problems. Not everyone will steal whatever belongs to you, and it is up to us to open ourselves up to others that we perceive to be enemies.
We might just be surprised at the result.

And That's All Friends!

Note: All photos are my own and taken with a Canon Powershop SX60HS Bridge camera.

We hope you have enjoyed the story and the photos.
