Just like I try to do less with more in my work and training, I am always looking for things that offer something a little different from the rest of the pack with out breaking the bank. North Edge have been a brand I have been watching for a while and they have a great range of cheaper aviation and military style watches, and in my opinion provide some cool features and watches that other brands seem to over look.The Float is a chunky military style analog watch with some smart watch capabilities. It has an analogue watch face, but also includes a digital panel displaying other information like steps and heart rate.
I purchased my one for $43 USD and it feels pretty heard wearing and made out of good quality material. Tempered glass for the face and aluminum for the body. It's big and chunky, which I like, but if you have small wrists, you might not like that. The side of the screen has a touch functionality to wake up the digital display to show time, battery life, steps, sports mode, heart rate, etc.
The smart watch and fitness capabilities are pretty limited but include step counter, sleep monitoring, activity tracker, heart rate monitor and the ability to find your phone using your watch. The battery life is also pretty limited and with the heart rate tracking enabled it only lasts about 3 days. The good thing is though the analog watch still works even when the smart watch battery is flat.
The app is very basic and is the only way you can use GPS with the watch when tracking activity. The sleep tracker and the heart rate tracker are actually pretty good though. The charger the watch comes with is also pretty cool as it fits nicely on the back of the watch without the need to have it directly connected.
I am still waiting for the day that North Edge bring out a reasonably priced fitness watch that blows my mind with functionality. But I can say this watch does what it says, provides basic functionality at a very reasonable price. If you are looking for a stylish and modern military watch, the North Edge Float could be a great starting point.
