NASA to launch lander to Red Planet

NASA will send its first spacecraft to Mars since 2013 on Saturday to study the "inner space" of Mars.

The Insight (short for Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) lander is expected to arrive in its destination in November after a six-month cruise. It will give researchers insight into the size of Mars’ core, mantle and crust, and provide data about the quakes, and temperature changes.

This will be NASA's first interplanetary mission to launch from the west coast of the US, namely Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.
