On September 5, 1946, the small Farrokh Bulsara was born in Zanzibar. Son of Bomi and Jer Bulsara, at age seven he was sent to the British-style boarding school St. Peter's School, located in Pachagani, near Bombay, in British India where. There, the dean of the institution noticed the musical talent that the young Bulsara possessed. This motivated him to write a letter addressed to Farrokh's parents where he suggested that they enroll him in music classes, in exchange for an increase in the monthly payment, an issue that seemed considerable to him. In this way, the child could receive music lessons and reach the fourth level of piano.

With the nickname "Freddie" he began to be known in the facilities of the institution where he studied and his family also chose to call him in this way. According to his friends at the time, "Freddie" is the English translation of the name "Farrokh", although Bulsara himself sometimes wrote it as "Frederick".

ROAD TO SUCCESS

Already in England, he managed to enter the Ealing School of Art, where he studied Art and Graphic Design (London) receiving his diploma in the year 1.969 approximately. Already independent, he settled in a department located in the Kensington neighborhood, dedicating himself to the sale of clothes and paintings in a nearby market.

At that time he had a friendship with Tim Staffell, whom he met at the Ealing School of Art, a member of the Smile group, which included Brian May and Roger Taylor. It should be noted, at this time began as a singer in a group of Liverpool, "IBEX" (later called "Wreckage"). Looking for the desired success, they moved to London, without achieving the objectives set.

After this failed experience, he starts in "Sour Milk Sea", after reviewing an ad in the "Melody Maker" where he was looking for vocalist. At the end of 1969 Tim Staffell decided to leave Smile. Then Brian and Roger ask Freddie to be a vocalist of the band.

CROWNING OF THE QUEEN

Now as vocalist "Smile", he proposes to the other members to change the name of the group and it was his idea to call her "Queen". In the same way, he adopts an artisco surname, and being known as Freddie, he only added "Mercury", with which he would be recognized in the world of music. There were other changes in the grouping. For the year 1971 joins the bassist John Deacon.

Freddie was responsible for creating the Queen logo. He wanted to recreate that Queen emerged after the union of two bands undone. He added some elements that would identify the members of the band. The "Phoenix Bird" that crowns the shield symbolizes the musical rebirth of the group, built on the ashes of previous bands. In turn, Mercury was inspired by the zodiac signs of each member and the images of them are in the logo: Freddie Mercury (Virgo). Brian May (Cancer). (Roger Taylor (Leo), John Deacon (Leo).

But very important to Freddie was his relationship with Mary Austin, a woman who became his friend, his lover, his companion of experiences. Other preferences would arise with the passage of time, but she always held a special place in her heart. Mary dedicated the song "Love of my life", cheered by the public in each concert.

FASCINATING COMPOSER AND SINGLE SINGER

If anything characterizes Freddie Mercury are his songs, recreating with them the spirit of his audience and leaving for posterity an invaluable treasure. Topics such as Do not Stop Me now, Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are The Champions, Somebody To Love, Love Of My Life, Barcelona, among others, make up an essentially significant repertoire, worthy of universal applause. In the year 1982 Queen gives a break, giving each member the opportunity to venture into his soloist.

Mercury's voice is unique. Although it reached notes of the tenor register, according to some opinions, Freddie Mercury was baritone; and daring to give my opinion, following an example that a choral director gave me about my vocal record, Freddie was a "baritone atenorado". The personality of this singer was so barbarous that, possibly, it was the result of his effort and hard work to get tenor notes. In the concerts you can hear his powerful voice hallucinating the audience, being his support drummer Roger Taylor, who, by natural causes, enjoys a vocal record very, very ... VERY sharp.

Some experts thought that its peculiar vocal sound was due to an extraordinary tessitura, capable of covering four octaves, nevertheless a new study carried out by Austrian, Czech and Swedish scientists, published in Logopedics Phoniatrics Vocology, has revealed that the vocal range of Mercury was normal, that of a healthy adult. These experts have analyzed the voice of the British singer through the selection of archival recordings, with the collaboration of a rock singer capable of imitating his voice. The lead author of the study, the Austrian scientist Christian Herbst, says that contrary to what was thought, Mercury was a baritone who sang as a tenor with an exceptional control over his technique of voice production. Among the most peculiar features of the singer is the intentional distortion that Mercury used to produce the so-called roaring sound.
