There's a lot of mystery surrounding this guy, Bols, and it all revolves around the Evergaol he's imprisoned in. The question is, who made the Evergaol? Some say it was the Cuckoos, a group that's currently allied with the Academy of Raya Lucaria against the Carian royal family. If that's the case, it's possible that Bols was a strong Carian knight who was captured by the Cuckoos for some reason. But there's another theory: maybe the Evergaol was made for a Cuckoo, which would mean that Bols sided with the Cuckoos and the Academy, and was locked up as a result. It's worth noting that most other Evergaols are named after the prisoners, not the captors, so this second theory seems more likely. But if Bols did betray the Carians and join forces with the Cuckoos, it's hard to understand why he'd do that. The Carians are known for treating trolls better than anyone else in the Lands Between. Whatever it finally is - quite neat lore :)
