I spent 12 years at public schools and 4 years at the university. I think it`s too redundant. Do you still remember what you learned from school? Probably not. I think most education systems suck and studying same stuff with others for several years is waste of resources.
Educational institutions such as schools and academies encourage us to be obedient and evaluate us to measure how much we memorize what we taught no matter how soon we would forget it after taking an exam. Its common for most education systems and it hardly changes although its inefficient. Let me tell you why.
Firstly, we need to understand the history of public education. It has been only about 200yrs since mass of people have studied at public school that controlled by the government. Back in late 18th century, Prussian education system was introduced after Prussia`s defeat in the early state of Napoleonic wars. The primary objective of this education system is to instill obedience and uniformity, killing creativity and individuality. Prussia offered mandatory school system for free to make people obedient soldiers, factory workers, and citizens. Thanks to this education system, the country was able to maximize productivity and be one of the most powerful nations in the world.
This system was widely accepted in other countries due to its efficiency and reduction of illiteracy. Especially, United States was quite intrigued by Prussian education system and they intensely adopted this system. You know US was settled by puritans in 17 century and they like discipline. During 19-20th century, this Prussian education system was widely institutionalized throughout the world and became the standard for public education model.
Look at this picture. Surprisingly, the public education system in 21st century is largely unchanged compared to 19th century. Teachers instill information and students take a note without thorough consideration. During a lecture, students are encouraged to kill creativity and individuality and be one of mass of mediocre students. This is definitely murder.
You know what? An inconvenient truth is the powerful people such as politicians, business mans and dictators dont want you to get smart. They induce people to get satisfied and misunderstand they have “free will” although its all designed by ruling class.
Think about it. If you were a power elite who governs society, you dont want people to be curious and raise a question on irrationalities of the society as it may threat your governance in the future. Maintenance is the first priority and creativity is the thing to kill. Thats why Prussian education system based public education rarely changes in modern society although it`s old-fashioned and inefficient, in my view.

학교나 학원 같은 교육기관들은 우리에게 순종을 요구하고, 배운 것을 얼마나 많이 암기하는 지를 평가합니다. 우리가 시험을 본 후, 얼마나 빨리 그것을 까먹는지는 상관하지 않죠. 이것은 대부분의 교육 제도에 일반적인 경우이며, 비록 비효율적이더라 하더라도 교육제도는 좀처럼 변하지 않죠. 왜 그런지 말씀 드릴게요.
먼저, 우리는 공교육의 역사에 대해서 이해해야 합니다. 대중이 정부가 통제하는 공립학교에서 공부를 하게 된 것은 불과 200년 정도밖에 지나지 않았습니다. 18세기 후기에, 프러시안 교육 제도가 도입됐습니다. 프러시아가 나폴레옹과의 전쟁에서 패한 이후죠. 이 교육 제도의 주된 목적은 순종과 획일성을 주입하고, 창의성과 개성을 말살하는 것이었습니다. 프러시아는 강제적인 교육제도를 무료로 제공하고, 사람들을 순종적인 군인, 공장 노동자 그리고 시민으로 키워갔습니다. 이 덕분에 프러시아는 생산성을 극대화할 수 있었고, 세계에서 가장 강력한 나라가 될 수 있었죠.
프러시안 교육제도는 다른 나라에도 광범위하게 받아들여졌습니다. 효율성과 문맹을 줄인다는 이유에서 말이죠. 특히 미국은 프러시안 교육제도에 많은 감명을 받고, 이것을 미국에 강력하게 도입합니다. 알다시피, 미국은 17세기에 청교도들에 의해서 세워졌고 그들은 훈육을 좋아하죠. 19-20세기에는, 이러한 프러시안 교육 제도가 세계적으로 제도화되고, 공교육 모델의 표준이 됐습니다.
이 사진을 봐보세요. 놀랍게도, 21세기 공교육은 19세기와 비교해서 거의 변한 것이 없습니다. 교사는 정보를 주입하고 학생은 깊은 생각 없이 노트 필기를 합니다. 강의시간 동안, 학생들은 창의성과 개성을 죽이고 수 많은 평범한 학생들 중 하나로 전락합니다. 이것은 명백한 살인이죠.
그거 아시나요? 불편한 진실은 권력을 가진 사람들 이를 테면 정치인, 기업인, 독재자들은 당신이 똑똑해지는 것을 원치 않습니다. 그들은 사람들이 만족하게끔 하고 착각하도록 유도합니다. 모든 것은 힘있는 사람들에 의해 설계됐음에도 불구하고, 마치 사람들이 “자유 의지”를 가지고 있다고 착각하게끔 말이죠.
생각해보세요. 만약 당신이 사회를 통치하는 파워 엘리트라면, 당신은 사람들이 궁금증을 가지고, 온갖 사회의 부조리들에 의문을 제기하는 것을 원치 않습니다. 이것이 미래 당신의 통치를 위협할 수 있기 때문이죠. 안정은 최우선이요 창의성은 없애야 할 것입니다. 제 생각엔 이것이 바로 프러시안 교육 시스템에 기반한 공교육이 현대 사회에서 좀처럼 변하지 않는 이유입니다. 그것이 구식이고 비효율적이라 하더라도 말이죠.
