Economics is for Everyone (Udemy Course)

Hi Everyone,

Course_Image.jpg

I have launched my first Udemy course ‘Economics is for Everyone’. The course focuses on how economics affects everyday people, the decisions they make and how they interact with the world around them. The course contains 24 video lectures (about 4 hours of viewing), 64 multiple-choice questions (3 at the end of most lectures), 32 downloadable resources (presentation slides, additional notes and links to relevant Steem posts), and 2 scenario questions. The course is currently free-of-charge.

This post briefly describes the course and intended audience. This post also contains 5 YouTube videos. These videos include:

  • A short description of the course and intended audience
  • An introduction to the presenter (myself) and a more detail description of the course contents
  • Lecture 1 introducing the course
  • Lecture 2 explaining the course assessment
  • Lecture 24 describing the scenario questions available at the end of the course

The three lectures from the course are available at the end of this post.

Intended audience

The course is intended for a wide audience. The course is applicable to anyone who wants to know more about economics. The course also delves into many important economic concepts that would be of some interest to those that have some familiarity with economics. The video above explains more.

Quick breakdown of the contents of the course

The course is broken down into four key areas/sections. These key sections are as follows:

  • Introducing economics and observing economics in the real world
  • The important economic theories
  • Application of economics in the real world.
  • Questions and assessment.

The linkages between these key sections are shown in the diagram in Figure 1.

This course begins by taking the student on a quick journey of a hypothetical day. The course highlights where economics is at work and where theory is being applied to make decisions. The discovery part of economics will occur during the first 5 units of this course.

The next area covered is the theory. Many courses are highly theoretical. This course will focus on theory that can be applied directly to the lives of most people. The observed application of economics from the first 5 units are revisited and discussed based on theory covered in the first part of the theory section. The theory section continues by splitting economics into microeconomic and macroeconomic theory. The second part of the theory section is intended to enable the student to understand the broader application of economics.

The remainder of the course will be focused on the application of economics. We will now be armed with a good theoretical background to help explain why certain decisions are made in the world. This part of the course is divided into three sections. The first section focuses on the application and the logic of that application. The second section focuses on the misuse and abuse of economics. The third section discusses how we can use our knowledge of economics to improve our lives and the lives of those around us.

The course contains short assessments at the end of each unit (starting from Unit 3). These assessments contain several multiple-choice questions to help the students gauge their understanding of the content. The final unit discusses the final assessment. The final assessment contains scenario questions. These types of question put the students into particular scenarios where they are required to use the knowledge they have gained from the course to address the questions. I describe scenario questions in detail in my post, 'Scenario Questions (Economics)'.

Figure 2 expands upon the structure of the course laid out in Figure 1 based on the above description of contents.

The course contains 24 video lectures/units. These lectures are titled as shown below.

Figure 3 shows how these video lectures fit into the course structure described in Figures 1 and 2.

If what I have described above interests you, I would recommend that you head over to Udemy to sign up for this course. The course is currently free-of-charge so you have nothing to lose financially. However, you might discover some life changing advice and theories you can actively apply.
