Economic Analysis explained using Sports Puzzles Volume 2

This post contains the second puzzle video in a series of puzzle videos. This video looks at reverse engineering using examples of sport events and tournaments. The final standings in a tournament are presented. It is the job of the viewer/reader to determine the results of the game. A simple example has been provided to give the viewers/readers some idea of what is required to solve the puzzle.

This puzzle is described as follows:

A league has been set up with 3 soccer teams. The table below contains the total points awarded to each team after all games have been played. Each team plays each other team just once. Three points are awarded for a win, one point for a draw, and zero points for a loss. Find out the results of each game played using the points in the table.

Logic: The brawlers have 2 points, they could not have won any games as they would have at least 3 points. They only possible way to have 2 points is from 2 draws (1+1). The Vikings have only 1 point, this point is from the draw with the Brawlers. The Vikings must have lost to the All Greens. All Greens have 4 points from the win over the Vikings and the draw with the Brawlers (4+1). The results of this tournament are presented in table below.

Using the logic presented above try and solve the two puzzles presented in the video. Pause the video if you need time to think about the questions.

Try to solve the puzzle in the picture below. The puzzle shows the final standings in a tournament where each team played each other team once. Use the final standing and points to determine the results of the games (win, lose or draw). Good luck.
