Democracy and Economics (Part 2) - Major Debates

Democracy_Thumb_Pt2.jpg

This post contains the second video in a four part series covering the relationship between economics and democracy. This second video looks at the main areas debated between the two major parties in the most recent Australian Federal Election. These main areas were as follows:

  • Position on gay marriage.
  • Views on asylum seekers.
  • Policy on Education.
  • Policy on Broadband
  • Policy on Climate Change
  • Policy on Health

The video briefly presents the arguments presented by both parties and highlights that their positions do not vary by much. The video also points out that the key areas of debate are extremely limited with many important areas and topics not getting mentioned at all.

The video highlights nine key areas where debate between the parties should be focused on. These nine areas are as follows:

  • Health
  • Education
  • Immigration
  • Infrastructure
  • Foreign Policy
  • Social Problems

  • Environmental
  • Economics

The video then elaborates on some of the key issues around health that are not or rarely discussed in political debates. These issues are as follows:

  • Vaccines
o What good are they doing?
o What bad are they doing?
o Is it safe to give them in such high quantities to our young children?
  • GMO and chemicals and pesticides in food
o What damage are they doing?
o Is it all about profits?
  • Chemtrails
    o What are Chemtrails?
o Are they real or are they just contrails?
o If they are real, then why are they there?
o What damage are they causing?
  • Meat and dairy industry costs to our health
o Why do we keep subsidising it?
o What are the real dangers to our health?
  • Junk food industry
o What are the health risks?
o Should it be so cheap when compared to other food?
  • Prevention vs. Cure vs. Treatment
o Why are we always focused on the treatment?
o How much money are Big Pharma making from drugs?
  • Ensure all have access to health care
o Why even in a rich country like Australia, do so many people not have access to quality healthcare?
o Why are there still shortages of healthcare professionals in certain places?
  • Demand vs Supply (health care)
o Why is the focus on increasing supply rather reducing demand for healthcare?
o Why is so little effort put into prevention?
o How about traditional alternative medicines?
  • Increasing childhood illness
o Why is Autism dramatically increasing?
o Why do our children suffer from more allergies than ever before?
  • Fluoridation of water
o What are the dangers of fluoridating our water?
o Should we be consuming poison to supposedly improve dental hygiene?
  • Traditional medicine
o Why don’t we invest more time into teaching traditional medicine?
o Why do doctors know see little about it?
  • Cigarettes
o Why are they still legal?
o How much more important is raising revenue than improving health?
o Why is a less dangerous alternative such as marijuana illegal?
o Why is vaping illegal in some places?
