Will The Healthy Suffer More Than The Sick?

Hey Jessickybugs

So the Cerveza sickness is the talk of the town, its all everyone is talking about lately, and I've been following the numbers for some time. I'm looking at the number of infected cases, looking at the death rate, looking at the economy and looking at the public sentiment. I'm wondering are we throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

So we know this virus is going after those with compromised immune systems, the old, those with preexisting conditions, smokers and the obese. It's horrible to see people suffer like this and we don't want people to have their lives cut short, but with the extreme measures we put in place are we kneecapping those who won't be affected?

Curbing one and causing another

Yes we are curbing the effects, yes we are saving lives but at what cost? How many people will be losing their businesses, their jobs, their homes, their assets, their pensions and more. This economic standstill will have far-reaching effects sand it will be driving more people into sickness, poverty and death.

Each percentage point unemployment goes up in any country literally thousands of people die, be it through opioids, depression, suicide, crime and so much more.

Since we can't accurately attribute this and it's more causation than correlation we dismiss it when compared to something like this pandemic we can count and share so-called direct figures.

If we go by some predictions and say that Covid-19 will reach 80% of the world's population and 4% will die then we're looking at around 200 million deaths which granted will have a widespread effect on the world in ways we cannot even imagine.

Economic fall out

I fail to believe that with all the technology we have today and medical advancements we could not have handled this better than it has so far. If money printing was not a problem that we can now see with US, UK, Europe, China and Australia printing money to spend like drunken sailors, why would these levers not be pulled earlier to curb measures? Why wasn't all that money thrown at a cure months ago?

If you've followed my blog for some time now, you'll know that I am a harsh critic of the current economic system. My concern what will be the fall out for the average person, the ones that will be around once the virus has run its course.

How long will it take to rebuild, will people bounce back? How much of the middle class will it erode and cause hyperinflation as governments try to re-stimulate the economy.

While this virus may kill a lot of people, there will be countless more that will suffer from the decisions that have been made. While I can certainly feel for those who lost their lives, what about those who will lose their livelihoods?
