The people of Lebanon have been through a great deal & I hope their resilience (& friends) will see them through this latest tragedy

Being half Lebanese, I’m saddened, of course, and just heard from my aunt who tells me that our family in Lebanon are β€˜alright physically, yet devastated emotionally.’

On a more positive note, it’s uplifting to read this statement from the European Commission :

The EU offers its full support to the Lebanese people. πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί πŸ‡±πŸ‡§

As an immediate first step, we have activated:
◼️ the EU Civil Protection Mechanism upon request of the Lebanese authorities;
◼️ the Copernicus Satellite mapping system to help assess the extent of the damage.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡± The Netherlands, πŸ‡¬πŸ‡· Greece and πŸ‡¨πŸ‡Ώ Czechia have confirmed their participation in this critical operation. πŸ‡«πŸ‡· France, πŸ‡΅πŸ‡± Poland and πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ Germany have also offered assistance.

We stand with Lebanon and its people and are ready to mobilise further help.
