The people of Lebanon have been through a great deal & I hope their resilience (& friends) will see them through this latest tragedy
Being half Lebanese, Iβm saddened, of course, and just heard from my aunt who tells me that our family in Lebanon are βalright physically, yet devastated emotionally.β
On a more positive note, itβs uplifting to read this statement from the European Commission :
The EU offers its full support to the Lebanese people. πͺπΊ π±π§
As an immediate first step, we have activated:
βΌοΈ the EU Civil Protection Mechanism upon request of the Lebanese authorities;
βΌοΈ the Copernicus Satellite mapping system to help assess the extent of the damage.
π³π± The Netherlands, π¬π· Greece and π¨πΏ Czechia have confirmed their participation in this critical operation. π«π· France, π΅π± Poland and π©πͺ Germany have also offered assistance.
We stand with Lebanon and its people and are ready to mobilise further help.
