Since I recently discovered a new renting strategy I also saw new opportunities to upgrade certain monsters. In this post, I will explain why I bought them and how my gameplay will improve from the choices I made.
First up are a couple of Gold Foil monsters and then two other favorites of mine. All of them are now absolute killers in the Silver II which I'm playing in. So check these out and let me know what you think in the comments section!
Goblin Psychic
I was getting really annoyed with the "healing competition" where my healer and the opponent healer just keep on healing the tanks and if it happens to be a dangerous monster like Oshannus, I usually ended up on the losing side. Well, not anymore!
With the Affliction ability Goblin Psychic now has a chance to prevent a monster from being healed. To upgrade this gold foil monster from level 3 to 4 you will need just another GF Goblin Psychic. The cheapest one is $2.24 on the market at the moment.
There is one negative side to upgrading this monster and that is the loss of one health point but in my opinion, it's totally worth it. I sometimes use it with the Wood Nymph, another tank healer, to do my best to keep the tank alive.
Venari Scout
One of those cards I have been neglecting. I had it as a gold foil but since it has only one melee point, I couldn't fit it into any of my strategies. After checking some of its potential stats I noticed that by just buying one more card and combining I would get that extra attack point.
So now I'm looking at this one with completely different eyes. For a 3 mana monster, it has speed and health, and now that attack power too. This will make the Scout extra dangerous because of the Opportunity ability, making it attack the monster with the lowest health. With most of the Silver league battles I've played, there aren't that many low mana monsters who would survive the attack without the armor.
Really great addition and a good lesson for me to sometimes check out the stats of the unused cards. You can get great ideas! At the moment a GF Venari Scout costs $0.44 at the market so with under $1 you can upgrade it to level 4.
Gargoya Devil
I quite rarely used this monster when I possessed only one gold foil version. 2 ranged attack points are pretty good but even though having the Flying ability, Gargoya Devil can be vulnerable especially to magic attacks because having only 3 health points.
Again, by combining another GF card we get Gargoya Devil to the next level. Now having 3 ranged attack points it really becomes something to consider. As a Neutral monster it can be used with all the splinters and by combining I was thinking about boosting my Life splinter attacks. With General Sloan this creature will have a decent 4 ranged attack points.
On the next level, Gargoya Devil would get the Deathblow ability which will deliver 2x damage to the last standing enemy monster. Tempted to buy more? Yes. This monster is on the market at the price of $1.27.
Uraeus
Currently my go-to monster when it comes to low mana battles. Uraeus is really deadly with Fire and Tarsa.
Djinn Biljka
With Djinn Biljka I made a small mistake by upgrading it to level 2 too soon. At the time I didn't have a high-level summoner who could handle it so Biljka's stats were reduced back to level 1. Now when I'm renting in the summoners I can at last enjoy its abilities.
Final Thoughts
Sure it might a bit expensive but buying and combining gold foil cards can really be a game-changer in my opinion. Besides, they add a nice amount to your collection power and give extra points in battles.
Sometimes you have to sell the cards you own to get the cards you want.
True. In order to do some of these upgrades, I had to sell my GF Molten Ash Golem for $3. It's a good card but I just couldn't find a way to fit it into my Fire squad. Actually, it was just sold when I was writing this so after publishing, I'll probably go ahead with that Uraeus plan!
