Karanga-Hape (Cornwallis) was a base for Maori fishing expeditions. By 1841 it saw the arrival of early European settlers on board the ship Brilliant. During the early 20th century was conversion of the settlement to lease holdings after the land was gifted to the Auckland Council. From 1909 to 1971 Cornwallis became the stronghold of bach recreationists. This video shows me here at Cornwallis in 2017, a popular beach destination within the Waitakere Ranges regional park.west Auckland. New Zealand.
