Doggy "pee pads" are fantastic for smaller animals

In Asia, the most popular dogs for people to have is smaller, lapdogs. These are normally "designer" dogs and at the start I want to remind everyone that if you do want a dog to please consider adopting rather than ordering the latest trend in "purse dogs." Plus if you are getting a dog because of a trend realize that most trends don't last for 12-20 years but a properly looked after dog will, so don't use the dog as a fashionable trendy addition to your look.

However, if you do find yourself with a small dog, these doggy pee pads are absolute life savers.

I had never encountered this system until I lived in Asia but that is probably because where I moved here from it seems that almost everyone who didn't live downtown had access to a garden and just opening the door for the pooch to go do their business was a very easy thing to accomplish. However, over here a lot of people live in condos or apartments and in the very big cities there are very few grassy areas at all. Your dog still need to relieve itself though and for many people this things are absolutely amazing.

For starters, most dogs (both of mine) were immediately curious as to what this thing was that I was putting on the floor and they would go over and sniff it. It wasn't long before they were using it to go to the bathroom and I wasn't even all that involved in the process. I don't know if it is treated with some sort of scent to make them want to use the bathroom there instead of other places in your home, but it does seem to be the case.

They also have these trays that are just the right size and this creates and even more contained area for peopel that have carpeted houses and what not. My entire house is tile so this is much less of an issue but it is still a nice way to prevent the dog from accidentally (or intentionally) kicking up the corners of it.

They are super absorbent and unless you buy a really terrible brand, most of them are biodegradable as well. For people out there that are super concerned about paper waste, they have washable cloth ones as well.

While we don't use these at the animal rescue center (where we have a garden), I do use these in my own home and I likely always will.

So if you are having trouble house training your puppy - which is a problem that all dog owners will face at some point or another - these are a wonderful help and they are also quite inexpensive.

Of course taking the dog for a walk is much healthier for both the dog and for you, I understand that not everyone has time for all that and especially if you live in some sort of high rise, these things are just the best and I wouldn't have even known they existed if I hadn't moved to Asia.

Perhaps they are all over the world by now, I don't know. But if your area has these they come highly recommended by me. Since getting involved with them, we have not had an "accident" in my house ever since!
