Joshua Tree 360° VR Gallery - First Test of DLUX Gallery

JTree.jpg

Here's a few images ripped from 360° videos I took at Joshua Tree.

Over at DLUX we've been meaning to build a simple 360° uploader, and yesterday we received a comment from @hallmann asking for it as well. So, @disregardfiat and I threw this together in under 24 hours, and it works!

The uploader is live at dlux.io/new, doesn't require any code, and publishes straight to HIVE.

Just drag and drop your images, name them if you want, and a VR gallery is automatically constructed. Currently the thumbnails (1:1 ratio) are just squeezed versions of the source photo (2:1 ratio), and the thumbnail name defaults to the source file name, which can be edited or removed completely.

There's definitely still some issues we need to work out. For instance, the layout of the thumbnails will just continue in a straight line, which is not ideal. And IPFS pinning is questionable at best with RTrades going offline. We'd love to be able to do this with video as well, maybe with 3Speak integration in the future.

All-in-all, we think it's pretty cool. If you've got some 360° photos you've been dying to put on HIVE, now you have the tool - free and open source, just like everything DLUX!

Check it out in VR on your phone, computer, or headset!
