After our stopover in Paris, we just spent 4 days in Bordeaux. And, what a great city!
Here some short facts about Bordeaux
- port city in Southwestern France at the Garonne river (in the 18th century it was the second biggest port of Europe, after London)
- sixth-largest city of France
- home town of 2 very famous philosophers (from Renaissance and Enlightenment age): Michel de Montaigne (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michel_de_Montaigne) and Montesquieu (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montesquieu)
- famous for its many 18th century buildings, according to UNESCO World Heritage it offers "an outstanding urban and architectural ensemble".
- world-renowned for its wine đ·, of course
Our following highlights are all in walking distance.

Monument for the Girondins (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monument_aux_Girondins): the history of the Girondins is very interesting and has a bad end; but most of their persecutors (Marat, Robespierre) end badly, too.

A view from the right side of the Garonne to the historic left bank
La Place de la Bourse et le miroir dâeau / The square of the stock exchange and the water mirror

A street named after Montesquieuâs most famous book (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Spirit_of_the_Laws): I think more streets should be named after books or ideas than after people.
Now we are near Nantes at the sea.
Have a great time đ
