Our Favorite Place for Ice Cream and Dessert!

Mousie’s Ice Cream Parlour

For a few weeks prior to its grand opening, Mousie’s Ice Cream parlour had been teasing us from the beginning. First, it started off with the place being blocked off for construction and then the straw poles went up without any signs leaving us to guess what it could be. I really and truly wanted a dessert place we could hang out and have fun and that’s exactly what we got! It was what the area needed and it could not have come at a better time in lieu of the reopening of the University of the West Indies, the campus within which it is located.

When It finally opened to the campus, students flooded in and ever since then it has been filled all day. The thing is, there were never any permanent places with good ice cream on the campus and so we were quite glad. The decor is quite awesome with cool decals and contemporary styles such as the hanging nixie lights and the music and ambience was quite the cliche teeny young adult place.

There were three tiers of ice creams, the budget pricing brand, the mid ranged brand and the luxury expensive brands, so you could just go casual or if you’re out for treating yourself to something nice the choice is there. For students to whom money is scarce, this was quite appropriate. There were also all sorts of smoothies, shakes, pies and sandwiches as well as teas and espresso drinks. There were also a wide selection of cold drinks, lollies and dairy free ice cream in the freezer as well as cakes and pastries too. A true dessert establishment!

Just like many other ice cream parlours, you can sample the flavours before you buy. The seating kind of mimicked the cliche 50’s diner style that you might have seen in American movies where they served ice cream sundaes and fries and shakes.

All in all the ice cream is great in terms of pricing and variety, it is an ice cream parlour after all. The thing is that there were also cakes, cookies, donuts, cheesecakes and other desserts on sale. This is what made me like the place even more. The seating and tables were comfortable and utilised the available space efficiently and the atmosphere and ambience was amazing for casual relaxation and ice cream outings with friends. I usually pay Mousie’s a visit when I have a hard day in classes or exams or if I'm just feeling for ice cream!
