Another one bites the dust .. Jenners to close after 183 years.

Pretty shocking. Pretty sad. Debenhams and Jenners on the same day. There's a reason Department stores still worked. a reason they fought of King Kroger and the supermarkets, Intu and the shopping malls. And while they struggled in the Age of Amazon, to die on the altar of guys like Mike Ashley, who knows a class act when he sees it.

Goddamn. The building Jenners is in is beautiful, and old department store with that classic feel of grandeur. Beautiful staircases and floors, not to mention the outer shell as well. It'll get gutted on the altar of these shysters.

Only, all he wants to do is do it for cheap.

Boohoo bought Debenhams. Laid off all the staff. Kept it for its name and brands. People are disposable, like cheap fashion.

You look at a guy like Philip Green and you think "ah yes, I remember when he was the darling of the business pages too". But at the end of the day, its all wide boys and fast bucks. Or, as my grandma would have said, fur coat and no knickers.
Kind of apt for Jenners
