It was created to ensure that all Brazilians have full, universal and free access to health services of all complexities. Through the **SUS**, Brazilians have free access to vaccines and medicines and to medical care ranging from medical consultations to surgeries and transplants. Brazil is very large, so there is the problem that some cities are allocated more resources and others are not. There is also a lack of medical equipment and professionals. Recently, my mother used the public health system to have surgery to remove her gallbladder. She has been suffering from this gallbladder health problem for some time, which causes intense pain when she consumes fatty foods. However, the process to get this surgery took about a year, as there is a lot of administrative red tape when it comes to more complex procedures and exams. In general, people queue up and wait to be called. Imagine a person who has the same problem as my mother, but needs surgery urgently. Most of the time it's not possible to have the surgery done by SUS as an emergency, so the individual has to have the procedure done by the private health network. This surgery costs on average BRL 10,000 or $ 2,000, which is quite expensive for most Brazilians. Fortunately, my mother had this surgery at SUS just over a week ago. She is currently well and in the process of recovering, which will take around two months. I too have used the public health system many times, especially as a child. I remember having several vaccinations at the health center in the neighborhood where I lived. I also went to the dentist when I was a child through **SUS** and to the doctor for check-ups. My neighbor started treatment late, because there was a huge queue of other people who were also fighting cancer, so unfortunately, as the cancer got worse, he died. Nowadays, I don't use the public health system very much, because I have health insurance. And I'm in good health, thank God. But even though I have health insurance, sometimes I feel like I'm being taken care of by the SUS, because sometimes I need to schedule a doctor's appointment or a test and there are only vacancies for two or three months. And this health insurance isn't cheap, and it's already in my plans to cancel it or replace it with cheaper health insurance. Last month I had to use the health insurance to have my right ear cleared of water. The pain was intense and I immediately went to the otorhinolaryngologist, but to my surprise all the doctors who called to schedule appointments were only available for 1 or 2 months, but I needed to be seen immediately. Thank God I found a doctor for the same week, because the pain was intense. For a minute I wondered whether it was worth keeping such expensive health insurance, if when I need it it reminds me of SUS, or even worse. I'm happy to live in a country that offers free health care. O Brasil é muito grande, por isso há o problema que para algumas cidades seja destinado mais recursos e para outras não. Há também a falta de equipamento médicos e de profissionais. Recentemente, minha mãe utilizou o sistema publico de saúde para fazer uma cirurgia para retirar a vesícula biliar. Já faz um tempo que ele vem sofrendo com esse problema de saúde na vesícula biliar, o que ocasiona dores intensas, quando ela consumia alimentos gordurosos. Porém, o processo para conseguir essa cirurgia demorou cerca de 1 ano, pois há toda uma burocracia administrativa, quando se trata de procedimento e exames mais complexo. No geral, as pessoas vão para uma fila, onde aguardam ser chamadas. Imagina uma pessoa que está com o mesmo problema de minha mãe, porém precisa ser urgentimente operada. Na maioria das vezes não é possível fazer a cirurgia pelo SUS, em carater de urgência, então o individuo tem que fazer o procedimento na rede privada de saúde. Essa cirurgia custa em média BRL 10,000 ou $ 2,000, que bastante caro para a maioria dos brasileiro. Felizmente, minha mãe fez essa cirurgia no SUS a pouco mais de uma semana. No momento, encontra-se bem e em processo de recuperação, que leva em torno de dois meses. Eu também já utilizei o sistema público de saúde muitas vezes, principalmente quando criança. Lembro que tomei várias vacinas no posto de saúde do bairro, em que morava. Também já fui a dentistas quando era criança pelo **SUS** e consulta médicas para fazer exames de check-up. Minha experiência com o **SUS**, no geral é positiva. Mas, como mencionei anteriormente, nem tudo são flores. Dependendo do tratamento que o paciente precise, caso não more em grande centros populacionais. Este hospital ficava em outra cidade, mas não tão longe. Então, para não ficar sem o tratamento ele decidiu viajar para outra cidade mais longe, para tentar começar o tratamento. Como o hostital ficava em um centro metropolitano muito longe ele precisava morar naquele lugar, enquanto estivesse fazendo o tratamento. Felizmente, ele tinha uma tia que morava naquela cidade. Meu vizinho começou o tratamento tarde, pois havia enorme fila de outras pessoas que também lutavam contra o câncer, então infelizmente com o câncer se agravando ele veio a óbito. Atualmente, utilizo pouco o sistema de saúde público, pois possuo um seguro saúde. E tenho uma boa saúde graças a Deus. Mas, mesmo tendo seguro saúde as vezes sinto que estou sendo atendido pelo SUS, pois certas vezes preciso agendar uma consulta médica ou algum exame e somente há vagas para dois ou três meses. E este seguro saúde não é barato, até já esta em meus planos cancelá-lo ou substiuir por um seguro saúde mais barato. No mês passado precisei utilizar o seguro saúde, para desobstruir meu ouvido direito, que havia entrado água. A dor era intensa e logo procurei o otorrinolaringologista, mas para minha surpresa todos os médicos que ligavam para agenda cosulta só havia vaga para 1 ou 2 meses, porém precisava ser atendido imediatamente. Graças a Deus encontrei um médico para a mesma semana, pois a dor era intensa. Por um minuto fiquei questionando se valia a pena manter um seguro saúde tão caro, se quando preciso dele ele me lembra o SUS, ou até pior. Eu me sinto feliz em viver em um país que oferece atendimento a saúde de forma gratuita.
