The Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Centre

The Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Centre

Keeping with the festive theme for this weeks post for Tree Tuesday hosted by @old-guy-photos, and just focusing on one tree but a big and well-visited one, that is this years Christmas Tree at the Rockefeller Centre

These shots were taken the morning after the tree lighting, early morning a little after 7:30AM and lots of people were already turning up to get shots of it and although I did not get a shot of it there was even a wedding ceremony taking place just to the right of this shot, I did feel for the bride in a nice outfit without a jacket out in the cold.
This next shot is the first shot I took of the tree that morning from another angle

This year's tree stands 77 Feet tall and has an interesting history, the owner of it a Ms. Schultz, it her 80th Birthday present to the world.

About 60 years ago, Ms. Schultz moved to the village of Florida, N.Y., about 60 miles northwest of Rockefeller Center, and planted a tree in her front yard.

“I really didn’t think it would take,” she recalled in a telephone interview. “I don’t have a green thumb. The only thing I can grow is cactuses.”

But Ms. Schultz nurtured the tree, even giving it words of encouragement.

“I would talk to it now and then, since it’s been small,” she said. The message: “Someday you’re going to be there.”
“There,” she said, was Rockefeller Center.

In 2010, she and her husband, Richard O’Donnell, sent a photo of the spruce to Rockefeller Center officials, who look for a tree to light every year. In 2019, her tree was chosen.

So many people visit the Rockefeller center to see the tree at this time that this year they have now created pedestrian zones around the Rockefeller Centre and Radio City Music hall, closing off some streets at peak times when people come to see the displays, between 2PM and Midnight
