Conscious Music you have probably never heard of | #78 | Hypnagog - Thematic Mathematics

Hypnagog's music is a true rarity and a graphic audio-visual delicacy, fusing musical elements and compositional skillsets into one enticing musical journey with a peculiarly danceable yet complex story of discovery and self-reflection.

You can definitely hear that a learned musician has had his hand in this project - melodies and chords go for avenues seldomly explored by most psy artists these days. The album is thick and groovy, with a fat and satisfying bass underlying the entire structure, fused with funky instruments like organs and mighty dry kicks.

The album is perfect if you are looking for something laid-back and relaxing, yet complex and interesting to listen to or get lost in. The soft character of Hypnagog's music and the overarching air of funk, jazz and even classical influences paired with cutting-edge sound design make Thematic Mathematics something of a borderline autistic and marvellously exciting excursion into tunes that have set the bar higher for the slower-bpm styles of the psy scene, offering a more relaxed counterweight to Hypnagog's main project "Terrafractyl" (which I have yet to feature in this series.).

If you dig psy you really want to give this artist a listen.

If you want to have a good party of chess, if you want to listen to some electronic music with incredible compositional depth and steadiness or if you need some ambience for your christmas dinner with friends who swear by jazz only, you may want to dare putting this on. It is definitely music for musicians but anybody will dig this who is looking for something special and profound within contemporary electronic music.
