The Attic Continues - September 9, 2021 @goldenoakfarm

Construction - attic - next mess to sort out crop Sept. 2021.jpg

Remember yesterday I posted this of what the carpenter had to tackle next. This was the rush job done in December 2020 just before a major snow storm hit. It was also the work my helper had done building an insulated box to cover the stairwell, to keep heat downstairs.

But what it meant was all this had to come up, even the plywood, and the flat 2” x 4”s laid out properly and secured with the proper structural screws.

The work my husband had done to fix the problem in 2019 had utilized these screws. When the work was done in 2020 they couldn’t easily find more and had used what they could find. Those had to be removed and the correct ones used.

On Thursday it was to be cool and rain. The carpenter was up in the attic all morning, after a trip to Lowes for the correct screws and drivers for them. He took up all the plywood, straightened out and laid out correctly the flat 2” x 4”s, and put them down with the structural screws. Then he started putting down the plywood.

This was the job my husband hoped to finish when he worked on the attic. I had a good idea of what needed to be done, as I’d done a post back when the problem occurred. So we’re hoping this will be the final fix to the problem.

My husband had wanted to get front step railings from New Jersey as they were cheaper, and he would install them. But alas… We had contacted a local company but they were more expensive. They will do the installation though, and I need that. So, these are what will be installed in December.

They came out on Thursday and took preliminary measurements and will send me drawings.

The mason had been out on Tuesday and said he’d be putting up staging. So far, no sign of him. Hope this isn’t a sign of things to come….

On Friday the carpenter will continue in the attic until it gets too hot. It’s to be a cool day, but sunny. And it will heat up fast up there. He has one more outside of a door to paint, so perhaps he will do that.
