The answer is: It's a difficult question.
The first months after the attack were the most difficult, not only for those who lost their loved ones, but also for the US government. The question in everyone's mind was; Who did this, and why?
The first inquiry was released December 2002 by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, pointing to the attackers being Al-Qaeda, with the report containing the names of the hijackers and the possible motive behind the horrendous attack. But the report was lacking, and did not have any conclusive evidence. At least not in the heavily redacted publicly released edition.
The conspiracy theories
Between 2004 and 2006 conspiracy theories flooded the internet, some saying that the US themselves had orchestrated and funded the attacks on the twin towers, others blaming insider trading and some blaming Israel. But none of the theories had the facts to back them up. The only reason people conjured, believed and spread these theories was because there were no conclusion as tho who actually were behind the attacks.
Friday two days ago, 07/15/2016, the last 28 pages from the 2002 inquiry were publicly released after years of secrecy and disinformation, linking the Saudi government and the Saudi embassy in the US to the terrorists both before and after their arrival to the US.
What happens next?
This attack was never properly justified, but rather put on the ice, most likely in fear of weakening foreign relations within the Middle-East. But now that the conclusive report has been released, pointing fingers towards Saudi Arabia, what will happen? Nothing? War?
