Odd Name for s coffee shop but the Wholesome Hippo opened in Newton Abbot less than a week ago, Thought I hadn't noticed on my walk before.
Located up near the clock tower at the top of the town so a little off my usual path but after dropping in I think I’ll make it a regular stop.
Inside its light and airy and the Baristas were very present and made me feel very welcome.
Besides the usual selection of coffee there were some nice looking homemade cakes, or cold drinks. On this visit I had a macchiato and a slice of orange and pecan cake. The prices are very reasonable compared to the usual coffee franchise shops and the service is much better.
Despite a couple of the baristas still having training on the machine the macchiato was well made with a nice strong espresso without and flash patterns in the foam just the way I like them. I’m going to have to see how good they are at making a Cortado on my next visit.
The cake was nice and moist too and not dry as sometimes happens with nuts. With a sharp tang of orange zest that was very refreshing.
