Braveheart - 1995

When I buy a movie these day I have to decide Blu Ray or 4k UHD, Blu ray is usually my choice but Braveheart is a exceptional movie for me that totally justifies the expense of 4K UHD

Directed and stared by Mel Gibson , Braveheart is the story of Scottish warrior William Wallace leading his countrymen in a rebellion against king Edward the first , also known as "longshanks"

The movie is not apparently very historically accurate, but Mel Gibson has created a film that is entirely believable, beautiful sets (and backdrops...how incredible are the Scottish highlands!) alot was filmed in Ireland too! excellent costume, and fantastic performances from all, Mel gibson is very good here, but I particularly like Patrick McGoohan as "Edward the longshanks" and James Cosmo as "Cambell"

CGI use was extremely limited in this film , the incredible battle scenes were shot using 1600 Irish army reserve soldiers. To this day the battle of sterling is in my opinion the most realistic battle scene of this period and i do not think it will be bettered, now its just to cheap and easy to use CGI.

A beautiful soundtrack accompanies the films and sets it off nicely.

The 4k UHD brings out a amazing clarity not seen before, the very striking colours but not over saturated.

Movie 9.5/10
UHD disc 10/10
