English news:

China-Taiwan tensions erupt over diplomats' fight in Fiji

"two Chinese officials began taking pictures and trying to collect information about the guests. The Taiwanese diplomat who asked them to leave was assaulted and needed hospital treatment for a head injury"

--- These poor innocent Chinese diplomats. Who wouldn't gatecrash a Taiwanese event to make some completely innocent pictures & ask who's attending? They just wanted to have something to memorise this event. Totally innocent.

"China gave a different account of events. Its embassy in Fiji said its staff had been in a "public area outside the function venue" carrying out unspecified "official duties""

--- Well, OK, we gave them the order to go to that event, but still it's totally innocent. Just looking around & having fun. But then they were aggressively provoked by a Taiwanese splittist cake:

"China's foreign ministry, in a briefing on Monday, revealed its officials were aware of what was happening inside the venue, including the fact there was a cake featuring the Taiwanese flag"

--- Shocking, truly shocking! A Taiwanese event where they showed the Taiwanese flag! On a cake to boot! How dare they! That hurt the feelings of all Chinese. Which of course includes the gatecrashing diplomats. They simply had to defend themselves. What else could they do when being attacked by a separatist cake?

Taiwan official in hospital after alleged 'violent attack' by Chinese diplomats in Fiji

"acted provocatively against the Chinese embassy staff who were carrying out their official duties in the public area outside the function venue
[...] a complaint had been lodged by the Chinese embassy against a Taiwanese official, alleging Chinese diplomats were assaulted when they tried to enter the venue"

--- Big bully China doesn't even try to keep its story straight. They were just doing official stuff outside, when they were attacked by evil Taiwanese. They tried to enter & were attacked. & somehow they know that there was a cake with a Taiwanese flag, which they only could have seen being inside.

Winter Olympics: threat of boycotts clouds China's 'joyful rendezvous' in the snow

"to get the population excited about the event, at least 2,000 schools have been instructed to include winter sports in their curriculum by the end of the year"

--- Ah, commie wonderland. By government edict people now have to love winter sports.

"In a way one could argue that there were fewer unknowns about China in 2015 when the IOC picked Beijing to host the 2022 Olympics than when the IOC chose Berlin to host the 1936 Olympics."

--- Well, in 1931 the nazis were not yet in power & in 1936 there were only small concentration camps with a few thousand inmates. 2015 the CCP has long been in power, emperor Xi took over in 2012. Now the concentration camps in China (mostly in Xinjiang) hold at least a million.
The IOC had no problem with the 36 Games, & it will not have a problem now. So, a boycott should be an option.

China's economic recovery gains even more momentum

"growth was also a bit weaker than expected: Analysts polled by Refinitiv predicted that China's economy would expand 5.2%"

--- As usual, no reason to trust official Chinese numbers. Although it is obviously getting better, some 5% growth seems unrealistic.

"Retail sales were up 0.9% in the third quarter from a year ago, with a 3.3% gain in September alone"

--- Dubious. Inflation is low, unemployment still high. Only the extra-ordinarily high food prices could have a 'positive' effect.

"A big indicator of that recovery came earlier this month, when China celebrated a busy Golden Week holiday period. During that time, hundreds of millions of people traveled around the country and spent money."

--- Yeah, well, but IIRC this year's Golden Week spending was down by some 30%. So that couldn't really have helped any year-on-year growth figures.

How China could be carbon neutral by mid-century

"The news of China’s carbon neutrality target is a “game-changer” for the global climate"

--- Only if you trust in Chinese promises.

"To replace coal-fired power generation, nuclear power would need to increase sixfold, and hydroelectricity to double"

--- Too bad that hydropower in China usually comes from dams, which produce a lot of greenhouse gas.

"offset by new forest growth and technologies that can suck CO2 directly out of the atmosphere"

--- Which is the most probable method, because it's just a matter of creative mathematics. & China is quite good at creative mathematics.

Alibaba increases stranglehold on Chinese shoppers

"Operator of hypermarket brands Auchan and RT-Mart, Sun Art has 481 hypermarkets"

--- Auchan & RT-Mart were my favourite supermarkets when in China with a good combination of modern supermarket & bazaar atmosphere. Luckily, I'm not in China anymore, so I won't see their transformation into typical Chinese supermarkets.

Live coronavirus found on frozen food packaging in China

"It has been confirmed that contact with outer packaging contaminated by the new coronavirus can cause infection"

--- Can! Possible, but improbable. Anyway, you should wash your hands after you handled foodstuff.

China approves new law to protect whistleblowers and prevent epidemics

"In the case of an emergency, health workers can under the new legislation report health risks directly to the local government and would not be punished if information turned out to be false"

--- Only in case of an emergency. & only report it to the authorities! Don't you dare to talk to your colleagues about it or (gasp!) make it public!

Deutsche Nachrichten:
