Robert James Fischer popularly known as Bobby Fischer is the eleventh Chess World Champion. He is one of two World Chess Champions to come from the Americas,the other being Jose Raul Capablanca of Cuba.
Bobby fischer was born on the 9th of March,1943 in Chicago Illinois. He became the youngest Chess grandmaster at the age of 15 and won each of the eight United States Championship he participated in.Fischer was a cut above the rest at the peak of his career in the early seventies.
He defeated Boris Spassky at Reykjavik, Iceland to claim the World Chess Championship in 1972 in the most publicised Chess contest ever. He failed to defend his crown after disagreement with the FIDE, the governing body for Chess allowing Anatoly Karpov to become the World Chess Champion in 1975.[Bobby_Fischer_1960_in_Leipzig_in_color-1.jpg](
Bobby Fischer went into obscurity but re-emerge twenty years later to play Spassky in a publicised rematch of their Championship duel in 1992.He won 10 games with 15 draws and 5 losses.
Sadly on the 17th of January, 2008 Bobby Fischer died of renal failure in Reykjavik, Iceland.
