A First Look at the Ford Fiesta Sport Hybrid Van

We got to have a first look at the Fiesta Sport Hybrid Van at the 2021 Commercial Vehicle Show.

Now fitted with mild hybrid technology, it aims to boost economy and save fuel - both things that come in handy when you are using these for your business.

It does this by utilising the EcoBoost powertrain, which recovers and stores the energy that is usually lost whilst coasting and braking, and uses it to charge to battery pack - a 48V Lithium-ion air cooled one. This in turn provides torque, and runs the ancilliary electricals in the van.

This new powertrain technology is already being utilised in Ford's bigger vans - the Transit and the Transit Custom - and is part of Ford's move to phasing out all diesel engines.

Luckily, the mild hybrid powertrain does not impact the load area, and is the same as the ICE version of 1 cubic meter.

This seems to be Ford's answer to the city van, so it will be interesting to see if this mHEV can match the long distance fuel economy in real world situations.

For big cities like London though - especially with ULEZ - this could be the answer your business is looking for.

Orders are now open for this van, with deliveries set for mid 2022.
