This stunning 1936 Cord 810 Phaeton will be heading to auction through RM Sotheby's during its Auburn Sale (Indiana, US) for about $US 150,000.
The Cord 810 is often referred as rolling sculpture, I'm totally agree with that...
The Cord 810 (and its siblings 812) model was a luxury car produced between 1936 and 1937 by Cord Automobile, based in Connersville, Indiana. It was the first American front wheel drive car with independent front suspension (like the Citroën Traction) based on the design of Gordon Buehrig, American automotive designer known for his design of the Auburn Speedster.
"New, original, and ornamental design for an automobile" - about the design of the Cord 810 during 1935 at the NY Auto Show
The Cord 810 was presented in 1935 at the NY Auto Show, huge sensation on the stand with a lot of commands with promising Christmas delivery. But many production's problems especially on the semi automatic transmission. At Christmas, no car was yet produced. The first delivery just came in February 1936.
This an example of 1937 Cord 812 Cabriolet (sold for $US 100,000 by RM Sotheby's last year) :
The Cord 810 has a Lycoming V8 engine running the front wheels through a four-speed transmission producing 125 hp.
This example, found in a barn, was fully and beautifully restored.
