Classic Car & Truck Show Vehicles (Vehicle Spotlight # 12): 1969 Plymouth GTX

Our twelfth vehicle spotlight in our Classic Car Show series goes on a 1969 Plymouth GTX.

The Plymouth GTX was introduced as the Plymouth Belvedere GTX in 1967 by Chrysler’s Plymouth Division and positioned as a Muscle Car. The GTX life cycle was from 1967-1971, and in total 44,178 were produced during this time period.

This particular GTX comes equipped with Plymouth’s 440 CID (7.2L) V8, which was called the “Super Commando 440” (and was rated at 375hp), which is mated with a 4-Speed Manual Transmission.

Unfortunately for the GTX, starting in 1968 Plymouth introduced a budget performance version of the Belvedere called the Road Runner, which cannibalized sales from previous GTX fans. Plus with so many other Chrysler Muscle Car vehicles at the time such as the Dodge Charger, Dodge Coronet, Dodge Challenger, and Plymouth Barracuda, GTX sales diminished rapidly as all these vehicle wound up spreading devoted Mopar Muscle Car buyers across too many product lines that proved fatal to many of these legendary names.

Nonetheless, this beautiful 1969 Plymouth GTX is a beautiful classic Mopar Muscle Car that is a pleasure to look at, and no doubt even more pleasurable to drive.
