Mi querida Sylvia, Ha pasado demasiado tiempo desde la última vez que hablamos. Tengo una noticia emocionante que contarte. ¿Recuerdas cuando tú y yo prometimos abrir una cafetería después de la universidad? Aprecio mucho nuestro amor compartido por el café. Nunca hubiera imaginado que mi pasión por el café me llevaría por semejante camino. Empezar este negocio ha sido una aventura increíble, llena de altibajos, pero al final he triunfado. I saw your missed calls last week and returned the calls, but got your voicemail instead. How are you doing? Guess what? I have some exciting news to share with you! Remember when you and I pinky-swear after graduation to open a coffee shop after college? I value our shared love of coffee. I never could have imagined that my passion for coffee would take me on such a journey. After I moved to Tokyo and settled in, I found myself surrounded by a rich coffee culture that was entirely different from what I knew. You will know so too when you visit! Everywhere I turned, there were new and exciting coffee shops, each with its unique blend and brewing method. So I threw myself into learning everything I could about Japanese coffee culture and the art of coffee-making. I discovered they offer a wide variety of coffee brewing methods including pour over, Aeropress, and Chemex, as well as a rotating selection of high-end, single-origin beans! Imagine my excitement, dear friend. I'm smiling as I write this letter. I experimented with these different brewing techniques, tasting and comparing the results, and honing my skills until I was confident that I had something special to offer. My trainer who owns a roastery, Makoto Ishida (石田誠), put me through the relevant training. And that brings me to the exciting news I want to share with you. I took the leap and made preparations to open my coffee shop here in Tokyo. I found the perfect location, secured the financing (thanks to my trainer) and was on track to open in just a few weeks. But then, something happened. A rival coffee shop directly opposite my choice of location, run by a cunning and ruthless businessman, sabotaged my efforts to open. He made a false report to the Specialty Coffee Association of Japan which led to an inspection of my shop. This delayed my opening by three weeks. I was very unhappy. My sadness became a forgotten issue when my location was approved as the report turned out to be false. Isn't that a shame to the rival coffee shop? People can be so mean. I became excited again about my opening. A date was fixed and the shop was ready. Makoto Ishida was to be the chairman of the event. On the day of my grand opening, I arrived to find that my shop had been vandalised. The glass windows were broken, the walls were spray-painted with graffiti, and some of my equipment was damaged. Sylvia, I was devastated. The police were not helpful in bringing the culprits to book. I almost gave up. Then I remembered all the passion and hard work that had gone into my dream, and most of all, I remembered the pact we made. With the help of my trainer, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. I cleaned up the damage and rebuilt my shop. I rallied my friends (I wished you were here with me) and together, we were able to get the shop back up and running in no time! And now, I am proud to say that my coffee shop is open for business! The shop has quickly become a popular destination for coffee lovers, both locals and tourists. People come from all over the city to sample my blends and enjoy the unique atmosphere that I have created. Starting this business has been an incredible adventure, filled with ups and downs, but ultimately, I triumphed. As you may have noticed from my blabbering, my trainer's interest in me is beyond coffee. *Wink* He asked me out to dinner but I have not given him my response yet.
