Welcome to another day of the #botanicalgardentours. Today I want to present to you the Sarracenia, also known as Trumpet Pitcher.
Herzlich willkommen zu einem weiteren Tag mit den #botanicalgardentours. Heute möchte ich euch die Sarracenia vorstellen, die auch als Trompetenpflanze bekannt ist.
he genus of the Sarracenia comprises 11 species and many hybrids of carnivorous herbaceous perennial plants that are native to the eastern regions of North America. Those plants are amazing examples of natures creativity as their leaves have evolved into pitcher shaped tubes, that are capable of trapping insects inside them. Therefore the pitchers attract the insect with a secretions from extrafloral nectaries with a beautiful scent that is located on the peristome, the outer rim of the tube, of the pitcher leaves. This peristome is quite slippery which causes the lured insects to fall inside the mouth of the tube where they are trapped and subsequently digested by the Sarracenia.
Die Gattung der Sarracenia umfasst 11 Arten und viele Hybriden von fleischfressenden krautigen mehrjährigen Pflanzen, die in den östlichen Regionen Nordamerikas beheimatet sind. Diese Pflanzen sind erstaunlich, da ihre Blätter sich zu einem krugförmigen Rohr entwickelt haben, das in der Lage ist, Insekten in ihnen einzufangen. Hierfür locken die Krüge das Insekt mit einem Sekret aus extrafloralen Nektar mit einem schönen Duft an, der sich auf dem Peristome, dem äußeren Rand des Rohres, der Krugblätter befindet. Dieses Peristom ist zudem ziemlich rutschig, was dazu führt, dass die angelockten Insekten in den Mund der Röhre fallen, wo sie gefangen und anschließend von der Sarracenia verdaut werden.
