For todays @botanicalgardentours I want to show to you the Chamaerops Humilis, also known as the Mediterranean Dwarf Palm.
Für die heutigen @botanicalgardentours möchte ich euch den Chamaerops Humilis zeigen, der auch als Zwergpalme bekannt ist.
The dwarf palms usually grow together in groups and do not want to be alone. Their stems can get up to 5 m tall and reach a diameter of 30 cm. The leaves also grow in groups of 20 single leavelets which can get as long as 1 m. This sounds like quite a social palm family ^^ ... The stem possesses sharp spikes as a protection against animals.
Zwergpalmen wachsen meist in Gruppen zusammen und wollen nicht alleine sein. Ihre Stämme können bis zu 5 m hoch werden und einen Durchmesser von 30 cm erreichen. Die Blätter wachsen in Gruppen von 20 Einzelblättern, die bis zu 1 m lang werden können. Das klingt nach eine ziemlich sozialen Palmen Familie. Der Stamm besitzt scharfe Stacheln zum Schutz vor Tieren.
The Dwarf palm is quite special as it is one of the only two palm species (of about 2800) that found its home in continental europe including the nortwestern parts of africa and therfore easily withstands temperaturs below 0 °C.
Die Zwergpalme ist etwas ganz Besonderes, denn sie ist eine der beiden Palmenarten (von etwa 2800), die im kontinental Europa einschließlich des Nordwestens Afrikas beheimatet sind und daher Temperaturen unter 0 °C problemlos standhält.
