BOSS LEVEL: My Review Of The 2021 Movie

First play of the movie and the game soundtrack quickly drag my attention back to the title of the movie "Boss Level", the next thing that followed in my mind was those adventure games of old, the final boss level battle that are always difficult to win. No doubt, the beginning of the movie did bring back childhood memories for a second. Getting stuck in a particular level while playing a game can be so frustrating and I must say the movie Boss Level took it's time to depict how frustrating it could be.

Hello everyone and Welcome to my blog, today's article will be my review of the movie Boss Level, a 2021 Science Fiction Action Movie, directed by Joe Carnahan. The movie star Frank Grillo (as Roy Pulver) who starred as the lead actor of the movie. The movie also feature Mel Gibson, Naomi Watts and Michelle Yeoh as co-stars. Boss Level is about a retired Delta Force Agent who happens to be stuck in a time-loop that results in his death and is on a quest to find out how to stop it. In my honest opinion the movie is a good movie, not something I will tag as a great movie, but honestly speaking it's good. It started with the narrator going straight to the point about what to expect from the movie. Even though it's a action movie, it's nice they could still put some laugh into it.

Basically, Roy was stuck in a time loop, thanks to his ex Jemma (Naomi Watts) who was conducting a research and have no idea if it would work, but she do know if it eventually work and was not used the right way, it could be the end of the human race. She got Roy stuck in the time loop so he could end what Colonel Clive Ventor (Mel Gibson) planned to do with her research work. Roy who was stuck in the time loop decided to use the opportunity to bond with his son he had with Jemma, while trying to do that he was able to get some new information about how he got into the loop and what he needed to do.

Writing/Suspense

Like I said before, the movie is pretty okay, it has it's laugh and apart from some minor mistakes I feel it was well scripted. From the movie, one thing I know will always happen to Roy while watching the movie, was the fact that each time, he dies, thanks to the loop, I get to see Roy again, but each time he comes back to life, the writer brings something new to the table, honestly speaking, I always wish Roy should die so I can see what is next, since his death is what unlock the next puzzle 😂😂😂😂. The writing of the movie was alright, I like the way the write made me remember those amazing adventure games, the moment they kill you over and over again you get use to it and the moment you enter a new stage of the game you die and have to start all over again, that was the life of Roy in this movie, stuck in a particular level and don't know how to kill the boss, so frustrating 😂😂😂. The suspense is good, I love the first part when the colonel told Roy on phone that Jemma is dead, that was when I understood I need to see more of Roy's death to unveil more truth about the loop (well, you want to know about Jemma's death and what happen to the son she had with Roy? Then you should see the movie). One beautiful thing about the writing of this movie, was how the writer took time to slowly unveil how everything started and then slowly take the movie to the final part.

Acting/Soundtracks

The acting was good, every cast displayed their role very well, and I love the fact that most of the cast used in the movie are not the regular A-list kind of actors, it's nice seeing some new faces and I must say these new faces didn't disappoint me in anyway. The soundtracks from the movie were not bad either, most of the tracks played bring out the game side of the movie, especially in most of the fight scenes. I think my favourite fight scene will be that of Roy and Guan Yin (Selena Lo), the moment Roy finally killed her and he decided to rephrase her famous line in the movie ( I am Guan Yin, and Guan Yin has done this), he said, (I am Roy and Roy has done this)😂😂😂, before this scene, Roy had died countless times at the not so friendly blade of Guan Yin, thanks to the loop, he got to kill her one time.

What I Don't Like

Like what happen to being really creative? The fight scenes are good no doubt but what were they thinking using red powder like substance to show splash of blood. They just didn't do well there, I feel it's more of a rush work there. And the use of CGI were easily detected, come on guys, we know these things ain't real, y'all are trying to entertain us, but come on, you can do better, make us the viewers go WOW! each time we see something new.

My Rating

Well, I did mention the movie was a good movie. The little flaws from the movie will make me rate it 7/10. The movie was good, the actors and director did a fine job, you want that action movie with a little bit of laugh then you should go and see BOSS LEVEL
