Things kept in secret have a nasty habit of revealing themselves at the most unexpected and inopportune moments which is why, depending on what must be kept quiet, most persons will go the extra mile in making sure their secrets remain that way. Such is the case in Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None where ten persons from various walks of life are seemingly randomly invited to Indian Island off the coast of Devon by a mysterious Nancy Owen only to discover that they all share a common secret which has led to the death of someone in each of their pasts. To make things more alarming, the only boat to or from the island has left this murderous misfit band of strangers stranded together with a morbid rendition of a childhood poem called "Ten Little Indians." One by one each dies in line with clues left in the poem above the mantle. Can they discover who is the masterminded murderer among them and survive together until the boat comes back to get them or will their bodies, alongside the cautionary poem, be the only clues left for the authorities to figure out who did what?

In terms of a 'who-dunnit' story this one is a favorite and I really like how the punishments referred to in the poem are creatively carried out as a self-fulfilling prophecy. I also really like how the author pretty much gives you the end result as the mystery is found in how events unfold. If you liked the recent movie called Murder On The Orient Express based on a book also written by Agatha Christie, you will also enjoy this book. Other audiences that I believe would enjoy this book are those who enjoy Escape Room Challenges, watching the latest BBC version of Sherlock Holmes, and those interested in criminalistics. As this is a murder mystery novel, I would definitely suggest reading this when your mind can be attentive to the smaller details necessary to solve the mystery and be sure to pay attention to the differences among the various personalities. Who is your favorite mystery author?
