Thoughts On The Power Of An Individual (feat. Bob Marley)

Bob Marley & the Wailers have been sounding a lot in our living room these past months, filling the space with really great vibes.

So yesterday my lady and I decided to watch a Bob Marley documentary and it opened up quite a few interesting questions about being a human being on Earth, about what our purpoose is and about the "mechanics" behind it, if I may put it so bluntly.

The man died in his mid 30's after a real blaze of a life! I mean wow! Dedication to his mission above all else - outweighing family matters and financial riches. He was keen on uniting people all over the Earth, rejecting authoritarian constructs and dissolving separation amongst people wherever he saw it.

Seeing just how much Bob Marley has helped to shape public developments in so many places on Earth, and the mighty concerts he was playing towards the end of his life it really makes one wonder how capable and influential a single human being can be...

And maybe more interestingly: How do people like that - with an unwavering faith and commitment to "the Almighty" suddenly turn up with countless cancers inside their body that end their life so prematurely?

I see two possibilities.

  • The man was deliberately made sick by the powers that be. Can't have a human being with so much influence thwart the evil plans for world domination and humanity's enslavement. And so from that perspective there was really no other way than to get rid of the man even though the "damage" had already been done, Marley will live on forever in his music that is playing everywhere on Earth, and it still radiates positivity to this day. It's eternal and it has been captured for all future generations.

There is also another possibility I see as likely:

  • There was no air left in the tank, God saying "this is it, well done!". It's as if the man had fast forwarded through a single lifetime as a human being, focussing so much on his mission and music that he burned his life candle faster than most people ever will. It may simply be that his destiny had been fulfilled by his mid 30's and there really was nothing left for him to do on Earth, the groundwork had been laid and the legacy was already larger than one man could ever feasibly hope to become.

He may have been against the idea of his parting from Earth, as anyone with an ego would, but then it's easy to see how the most impressionate mark he could leave to his legacy is to go out in a blaze long before most people depart the Earth, in his mid 30's. At the height of his success in terms of having a real impact on humanity.

It really makes me appreciate not only my own life more but the boundless power any human being has to help shape reality into something worthwhile for future generations. Remembering who we are and speaking about it, singing about it and helping people remember their true innate power in the face of ever-increasing authoritarian constructs of this world. What a gift to the world his life has been.
