Netflix does not see the big US broadcaster HBO as the main competitor, but rather the popular game Fortnite.
Competitors do not always have to come from the same industry. Maybe at a washing machine manufacturer. But when it comes to entertainment, many options compete for the time of the people. Concerts, movies, video games, music and much more. For Netflix is therefore not surprisingly Fortnite (now for 59.99 € buy) a larger competitor than the US broadcaster HBO.
As a recent Netflix investor conference said, "We compete with Fortnite more than HBO." Although it is obvious that someone who plays Fortnite, not or difficult to see at the same time Netflix, but so far, there were hardly any film companies and streaming platforms that have so clearly called gaming as competition. And for Fortnite developer Epic it is also to be understood as a kind of special praise, because after all designated the person in charge at Netflix not the video game scene as a whole as a competitor, but specifically the Battle Royale game.
